Apple's new colorful iMac series with M1 chip

Apple has introduced its new iMac lineup amongst other products earlier at their Apple Spring Loaded online event. It is the first M1-powered iMac with an all-new design. And before we talk about what this new iMac has to offer, here's an overview of the spec sheet and price for it.

Great power and capability

Combining the most powerful M1 chip and the latest macOS Big Sur, the new iMac 2021 now demonstrates an entirely new level of performance. Although independent tests are not available at the moment, Apple claims it is 85% faster in CPU performance and up to two times faster in graphic performance than the standard 21.5-inch iMac. Also, iMac can now wake from sleep instantly, launch apps in a snap, and the ability to edit up to five streams of 4K footage or one stream of 8K footage without dropping a frame in Final Cut Pro.

Stunning Video and Studio Quality Mics

1080p FaceTime HD camera

Apple recognizes the importance of video and audio quality, as needed by most for work and social interaction during this pandemic period. Hence, it has added a 1080p FaceTime HD camera with a larger sensor and doubles the resolution for higher-quality video calls. With the advanced image signal processor (ISP) of the Apple M1 chip, the image quality improved further.

Studio-quality mics

Along with the improvement of the camera is the studio-quality, three-mic array. According to Apple, the mics are engineered to reduce feedback to the rest of the system, so conversations flow more naturally with lesser interruption. And with beamforming technology, background noises are ignored, focusing on the user's voice, giving clearer and louder video calls.

Incredible room filling audio

The new iMac has a six-speaker sound system that brings incredible, room-filling audio within a space. It includes two pairs of force-canceling woofers that create rich, deep bass without too much vibration audio, balanced with a high-performance tweeter. Further coupled with advanced algorithms, the iMac can now support spatial audio when playing audio with Dolby Atmos.

The all-new Design

24-inch 4.5K Retina display

The 24-inch (4480 x 2520) iMac has a 4.5K True Tone Retina display with 11.3 million pixels, 500 nits of brightness, supports P3 wide color gamut, and has an industry-leading anti-reflective coating that delivers greater comfort and readability.

Thin Display design

With the M1 chip, the new iMac now requires only two small fans that keep the iMac cooling and quiet, staying under 10 decibels only (barely audible to the human ear). The new internal built gives the new iMac a more compact, thinner display with only 11.5 mm thick and less than 5 kilos.

Seven colors with matching keyboard and mouse

Available in seven bright colors, the new iMac also has a matching keyboard, mouse, and trackpad accordingly. Each color iMac comes in a beautiful two-toned theme.

New Magic Keyboard

A few significant changes were made to the new magic keyboard, including a new Emoji, spotlight, dictation, do not disturb, and lock key, increasing the user's convenience. Another variation of the new magic keyboard, instead of a lock button, has the Touch ID. It allows wireless fingerprint data transmission, such as making an Apple pay, unlocking iMac, or even fast user switching.

Thoughtful design

Even with all the exciting new improvements and features, the excitement doesn't stop here. Apple has made thoughtful design changes, including the magnetic power adapter with color matching woven-cable for quick and easy connection and the ethernet cable that plugs directly into the cable brick instead for a less cluttered desktop.

Lastly, if you are one of them who can't wait to get a new iMac to pamper yourself, here's good news. According to Apple's website, the preorder for the new iMac will begin at 8 pm SGT this weekend.
